Thekkady is not exactly an One night destination, which was usually misunderstanding by the travelers as well as the travel agents.  If you go through with the below mentioned, you may comes to get an idea that what we said at first was Correct!

Periyar Tiger Reserve: Commonly known as Wild life sanctuary – which is a prime attraction with many activities such as Trekking and Boating. Family Traveler can afford the trekking experience if they were all fully grown up above 12 years . Boating is highly recommendable for all age groups.  Pre Booking needed for peak dates or the ticket will be available from the counters directly. !!!! Many options on Trekking Schedules.

Elephant ride: A private activity  , that kids will enjoy at their best.  For grownups they have many options too such as bath and shower with elephant  and  Commanding  the animal.

Spice Garden Walk And Purchase:  Thekkady – lap of Spices. A good knowledgeable programme. You can walk into any of the Spice gardens to have a look of the spices how to growing, and how they are processing the same too.  Magic in Masala boxes revealed!!! Don’t forget  to get some Spices like Cardamom, pepper, Cloves….. (The great way to Impress Home ministers!!!!!)

Jeep rides: No vehicles are allows inside jungle –  Don’t be down!! There are many places you never feel that it is not a jungle still you can ride a jeep to see many view points like Ottakathalamedu, Pandikuzhi, Sathram(Off Road ), Hill vbiew points like Parunthumpara, Panchalimedu.

Still you can ride your Jeep to have a real jungle experiences, if you are ready for  a whole day trip – Aangamuli, And Gavi Forest trip!

Cultural Shows: To know a land, first we have to know about their culture. Which is easy to explore through the Art  forms!!!  Land of nature still have handful of art forms such as Kathakali , Tholpavakoothu (Shadow Puppetry )and Kalaripayattu ( Martial Art Form) . There are many theatrical performaces are happening in and around Thekkady. You have enjoy the evening with same .

A jungle destination will not fulfill without tribals!! Thekkady (PTR) having Tribal Dance show also available in the evening on the PTR Theater!

Adventure Park: Adventure tourism also be promoted in Thekkady with some Adventure parks. Where you can do all your ruff and tuff stuffs!!!…

Nature And Green Walk

It is an interpretive sandal wood protection trekking program offering excellent opportunitiesfor watching birds, butterflies and other wildlife passing through a range of habitats during the 4-5 km 3-hours walk. These treks go through different nature trails inside the Park. A maximum of 5 peopleare allowed on each trek accompanied by a trained tribal guide.  You can book this activity

Border Hiking

It is day-long range hike along the borders of Periyar Tiger Reserve. The route passes through undulating terrain and altitudes ranging from 900 m to 1300 m where the trekkers can glimpse the lofty escarpments bordering the park, watersheds and the vast stretches of CumbamValley below. Gaur, sloth bear and elephants are often sighted apart from birds and butterflies. Groups of 10 guests in two batches accompanied by guides and armed guards go on the hike that starts early in the morning.

Bamboo Rafting

This is the dawn to dusk hiking and rafting program through some of the richest forest tracts of PeriyarTiger Reserve. It starts early in the morning and goes through a mosaic of habitats and forest rich in bird life, arboreal animals like Giant Squirrel, Nilgirilangur, herds of elephants and gaurs. The rafting is of about 3 hours duration where one gets a panoramic view of the forest clad hills reflected on the lake

Jungle Scout

This program envisages a three hour night trek providing a rare opportunity to observe some of the interesting night life of the Thekkady forest such as civets, mouse deer, flying squirrel and various nocturnal bird species. Participants will be contributing directly to protecting the buffer zone and fringe areas of the Reserve as they travel in the company of forest watchers and trained guides.A trek ideal for younger visitors fit and disciplined enough to walk in the silence of the night. Three time slots are offered along two routws.
